Reformer Modules 1, 2 & 3
The Pilates Reformer is an extraordinarily flexible piece of exercise equipment allowing resistance and support for exercises involving every part of the body. Our program gives you a thorough understanding of how to use the Reformer to develop core and extremity strength, stability, flexibility, coordination and balance. The wide range of exercises provides a stimulating workout for clients at any level of ability.
Our Reformer certification program includes:
- Exercise instruction in the complete Pilates Reformer repertoire
- A comprehensive manual consistent with current national standards
- Cueing, coaching, safety and teaching tips for clients at different levels of ability
- Guidelines for teaching older adults, pre- and post-natal women, and clients with back, knee, neck and shoulder conditions
- Program design for clients at every level including sports specific lessons
- Equipment safety and maintenance
BBU Pilates Reformer Instructor Certification Requirements for Completion
To become a fully qualified Balanced Body Reformer Instructor, students must complete the following:
- Please note: Balanced Body Mat is NOT required to register for Reformer but Balanced Body Mat or comparable IS required before you can Test Out and receive your certificate of completion as a Balanced Body Reformer Trainer.
- Balanced Body Reformer 1 – Course work, written and practical test (16 hours)
- Balanced Body Reformer 2 – Course work, written and practical test (16 hours)
- Balanced Body Reformer 3 – Course work, written and practical test (16 hours)
- Anatomy Required for Test Out only – You may Register for Reformer before completing Anatomy
- 50 Personal practice hours (these are hours that you do in a private session, in a class or by yourself) and 100 Teaching hours (these are sessions that you teach to family, friends or other teachers-they can be done at your home or in a studio or anywhere you’d like. If you need to use our studio to perform these hours- arrangements can be made. Contact us for details) or 30 Reformer personal sessions (these are hours that you do in a private session, in a class or by yourself), 30 observation hours (these are hours you spend observing an approved instructor teaching mat work) and 90 teaching hours (these are sessions that you teach to family, friends or other teachers-they can be done at your home or in a studio or anywhere you’d like. - Practical Test: Once your other requirements of completion have been met, you must be tested out in order to receive your certification. This can be done at Fusion Pilates Asheville, or at any number of BBU Test Out centers across the country. You do not need to take the Practical Test for each module if you plan to receive a Comprehensive Certification. You are only required to take one Practical Test for Comprehensive Certification once all of the other requirements have been met. There is a fee of $150-$200 for the Practical Test Out.
- Total hours for completion for Reformer program: 198 hours (not including anatomy)
- Total hour for completion of Mat & Reformer program: 300 hours
Upon completion of all of the requirements, a certificate of completion as a Balanced Body Reformer Instructor will be issued.

Movement Principles Description
Pilates Movement Principles introduces you to the biomechanical foundation of the Pilates method and to the essential components of tonal core strength, lumbopelvic and scapular stability, as well as assessing and correcting alignment and improving flexibility. Pre-Pilates exercises are included for teaching these key principles to your clients and classes.
Online Course Prep Included ($115 Value)
Our exclusive Online Course Prep program was designed to prepare you for your main module training with Balanced Body. Many of our students walk into their first module course filled with anxiety and questions. This program will put you miles ahead and ease your mind so that you will be ready to take in and really understand the immense amounts of information that will be coming your way in your module course. This program has two parts. Pilates Essentials gives you a detailed overview of all of the foundational information, and a short Mat primer will give you all the information you’ll need to be completely prepared before you walk into your module course.
Prerequisites:
- Student must have taken 30 Pilates Reformer classes or personal Pilates training sessions. Anatomy for Pilates course or comparable is not required to register, but is required before Test Out (if you’ve taken an anatomy class other than Anatomy for Pilates, please contact us for approval).
- Balanced Body Mat is not required in order to register for Reformer 1, but Balanced Body Mat or comparable IS required before you can Test Out and receive your certificate of completion as a Balanced Body Reformer Trainer.
- Reformer I includes an introduction to the Pilates Reformer including set up and safety, plus beginning exercises, program sequencing and teaching tips for group classes. By the end of the course you will be able to teach a beginning Reformer class or personal training session.
- Student must complete the online Pilates Essentials and Course Prep workshops before the first day of the course. (These programs are included in the price of Reformer 1).

Reformer II includes intermediate exercises and modifications designed for group and individual instruction. Teaching successful classes and sessions to clients at different levels of ability is emphasized. Included are a variety of programs designed to keep your clients inspired.

Reformer II or comparable (if you’ve taken a Reformer II Class other than BBU Reformer II, please contact us for approval)
Reformer III includes advanced exercises plus modifications for sports specific activities, tips for training the advanced client and programs designed for specific sports.
