Untold numbers of women, men and children have a disconnect of tissue synchronization at the Abdominal wall which at its most severe will include a Diastasis Rectus Abdominis. Even though the research in this area is small, we all know that a integrated Ab wall is essential for musculoskeletal, urogenital and pelvic organ support and health.The research does show more than half of adult women have lumbo pelvic floor and hip  dysfunctions such as loss of bladder control, bowel pain, pubic symphysis pain and prolapse. Most of these dysfunctions include a Diastasis Rectus Abdominis, which is the tell tale sign of fascial loosening in the core cylinder.

Vibration Therapy

Vibration is an integral part of how our body responds, refuels and finds homeostasis. Unfortunately, being human in the modern day blocks the natural vibrational frequencies in and around us. Using simple applications with tools such as the Ribbit massager, Tuning forks, Tapping, Sounding and many more we will learn how to bring the body back online to accept and digest these frequencies once more.

This therapy has been shown to positively stimulate nerve receptors, increasing and speeding up the regenerative capacity of our tissue. It gives us information on our center of gravity, maintaining dynamic balance and prepares our tissue to contract to the right degree for the task at hand. The effect on the nervous system and calming the mind is profound. Participants will learn to design exercise regimes for various populations both on the mat and on the Reformer.

What animates humans to move, behave, and react to their environment is a multi faceted, multi layered construct that each person approaches in their own unique manner. The Pilates Studio is the perfect place to set the microscope to observe how people communicate with themselves and the world at large through movement. And the movement we practice the most in the world is walking and for the most part we do it unconsciously until pain or injury sets in. If this innate ability is impaired, our strong exploratory spirit can become stifled, and our wanderlust for the world at large cut off.. Much like the patterning of our DNA, the helical template for our ground movement dynamic is at the foundation of our essential makeup.Ideally walking should be an activity that primes, tunes and nurtures our system. Without this essential human movement the body cannot survive.

In this 2 day workshop we will explore how the foot, ankle, leg, pelvis, spine and ribcage creates the full body spiral that propels us forward with every step. Time will be spent on the anatomy of each of these parts and how they all talk to each other to keep the energy engine of the body working and moving well. Targeted exercises to practice in and out of the studio will be taught to help prevent break down and to rehab from misuse and injury. Come  re learn the basic, birth right  movement  of locomotion that the modern human has forgotten. Your body and your clients body will thank you.


Neck & Shoulders

A study from the Harvard School of Public Health, Brigham and Women’s Hospital, and Microsoft showed that our constant interaction with screens can place the small, interlocking bones at the top of the spine (the cervical vertebrae) and the neck muscles into an unnatural posture. This can strain muscles, nerves, tendons, ligaments, and spinal discs.

 

Our work and communication has changed and is often accompanied by , forceful, and habitual motion that creates a lock down through our head , neck, shoulder girdle and ribcage. This creates a sense of restriction, pain, and immobility resulting in a suffocating sensation as well as a pressure breakdown that can cause issues in the gut, pelvis, hips, and lower extremities.

 

By gaining knowledge of the bodies synchronicity of movement and fullness of participation with every motion and breath we can reinstate the original way our body is suppose to feel and move.  By implementing mindfulness techniques along with subtle and full body movements, we can slowly start to loosen the vice we have put on our upper body.

 

In this workshop you will learn essential assessment sequences designed to determine what actions to take with your clients. Awareness and release/activation sequences involving important structures like the Vertebromanubrial region, the first and second rib, the Scalemes, suboccipitals, SCM, Upper Traps, and Rhomboid minor ( o name a few) will be taught. You will learn mat and equipment exercises to ignite proper head, scapula, humerus, clavicle, and rib motion.

In this workshop you will take an extensive look at the female pelvis in all stages of life: Puberty, young adulthood, pregnancy, post pregnancy and in Menopause. In this training we will combine evidence-based science and medical standards of practice with holistic, natural and alternative methods to offer numerous tools to our varied clients at all stages of their lives. Anatomy, function, dysfunction and physiology will all be discussed. How the pelvis informs the legs and spine at every stage will also be looked at in detail. Students will be taught how to design  balanced and individual exercise sequences to support the client and the health of her pelvis at every life stage.


Flossing the Fascia on the Mat, Reformer & Cadillac

By using the mat and small props and the Pilates apparatus , in combination with the sling system, we will explore how to work smart and creatively to balance the myofascial system. In all populations, speaking to our connective tissue skeleton and learning to connect and balance it is of the upmost importance. Great emphasis will be put on balnced tension, lengthening and lubrication of the fascial web.

Not sure how to balance the day to day changes in your pre and post natal clientele? Myofascial release and subtle body movement to remind the system of proper, balanced biomechanics is essential for the pre and post natal stage. Our specific technique of release and subtle Pilates based movement will create this awareness for your clients. Protocol on the Mat and Wall with small props and the Apparatus with small props will be taught. A detailed manual with release and movement sequences for the studio and at home for each stage will be provided.


Balancing the Neuro Myofascial Web in Pregnancy

Pregnancy is a crucial moment in life where great emphasis must be put on balanced tension, lengthen and lubrication of the fascial web. In this 3 hour workshop, we will explore how to work smart and creatively to balance the neural-fascial web in our pre natal clients. We will employ the reformer and the reformer / half trap, in combination with the Sling , to create many floors for the the pregnant body to reach into for the ultimate tensegrity and support system.  This workshop explores many techniques to unwind the pregnant pelvis from the feet and the legs and then from the shoulder girdle and torso to create an easier pregnancy, labor, delivery and recovery.
